Duties and Responsibilities:As a Senior Database Administrator, you will be leading the DBA team and collaborating with various technical teams to provide and maintain services to the CNM community. These duties include:

Evaluate Oracle Critical Patch Updates (CPUs) as published as well as database upgrade releases and viability or necessity in CNM specific environment; assess impact of changes to existing applications; install, configure, and test, Oracle middleware and TomCat; apply Oracle upgrades in non-production environment, test and move to production environment. Track, evaluate, and apply Java middleware upgrades as required.

Collaborate with system administrators with hardware and operating system upgrades and conduct testing; assess and discuss software, hardware and network requirements with ITS staff and vendors; assess impact of and make recommendations regarding changes to existing database and middleware systems

Analyze/debug database code that is broken or not following business rules (usually through a change in environment or evolving requirements); troubleshoot errors generated by in-house or vendor software

In collaboration with the UNIX system administrators, install, upgrade, and configure application servers (Web Servers, Java EE, Oracle Forms), database servers (Oracle RDBMS), and vendor products (Banner, Workflow, DegreeWorks);

Assist programming staff with installations of development software; assist programmers and end users with database object modeling (tables, triggers, stored procedures), query strategies, Banner design standards, where and how data is stored in the database.

Keep documentation updated to prevent it from becoming irrelevant

Monitor operating system, application servers, and database servers; identify potential issues and develop strategies to mitigate issues. Work with System Administrators and/or Programming staff to implement monitoring tool configurations.

Monitor database performance metrics such as tablespace usage, indexing, locking; work with end users when high loads or bottlenecks occur through incorrect SQL code or extensive locking of database records; reorganize data to improve performance or recover unused space in the database; run scripts developed by vendor support or programmers to fix incorrect data.

Provide guidance and direction to DBA team.

Provides on-call support on a rotating basis
Minimum Requirements:Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems (MIS) or related industry and seven (7) years of work experience.
