Duties and Responsibilities:Clean and maintain the Metals Studio to ensure a safe working environment. Ensure that studio equipment is maintained and safe for use. Maintain a casting schedule which keeps work flowing. Fire and supervise computer-controlled electric kilns for wax burnout. Supervise open studios to ensure safe and proper use of equipment. Train faculty and students in safety, cleaning, and assisting with various Jewelry Studio tasks and responsibilities. Inventory, order and receive supplies and materials (i.e., metal, solder, findings, fluxes, filters, pickle, etc.). Maintain and repair equipment (i.e., troubleshoot kiln problems, change kiln elements, replace switches, lubricate and adjust sheer and mill, trouble shoot casting equipment and repair, etc.). Maintain and oversee studio safety rules and procedures to OSHA standards. (i.e., provide PPEs; ensure adequate ventilation of toxic fumes and mists, etc.). Oversee, direct and maintain efficient operation of studio (i.e., organize space, maintain efficient flow of work and materials from forming through finished piece, etc.). Manage the Jewelry area budget.

Hire, supervise and schedule work/study students (i.e., train, schedule, direct and monitor student workers on a daily basis.). Perform all other related duties as assigned and cooperate whenever needed with other Art Studio Technicians at other campuses. Cooperate in "cross-training" with the Full-Time Art Studio Technician so both Tech positions can eventually support one another in all studio duties. Provide access to Open Studio students while performing regular Jewelry Studio Technician responsibilities. Travel between campuses, to procure supplies and materials. CPR certified or ability to attain CPR certification within 90 days from date of hire. Must be able to take CNM Defensive Driving Course within 30 days of hire.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of related work experience

    Employment is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining a satisfactory background check.
  • Preferences:
  • Completion of some post-secondary coursework in art, jewelry, or related field.
  • An associate's degree or higher in related discipline
  • Work experience in jewelry manufacturing, bench jewelry, or jewelry studio setting, in which you participated in the creation of jewelry items.
  • Knowledge of Acetylene B torches and safe soldering and annealing practices.
  • Knowledge and experience casting jewelry or other small scale metals.
  • Ability to maintain and repair jewelry studio equipment including but not limited to? Bonny Doon press, rolling mill, flex shafts, metal sheer, ventilation, casting equipment, buffing machines.
  • Knowledge of studio safety rules and procedures to OSHA standards (i.e., provide respirators, gloves, goggles; ensure adequate ventilation of toxic fumes and mists, etc.)
  • Knowledge of inventory processes
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students and instructors with various needs
  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Work Schedule:20 hours per week during regularly scheduled Art studio classes, including Saturdays.
