Remarks:CNM hires both "two-term" and "three-term" instructors dependent upon program needs. Two-term instructors teach fall and spring terms (9 month contract) and three-term instructors teach fall, spring, and summer terms (12 month contract). This position is a three-term teaching position.

Duties and Responsibilities:College, School, Program/Discipline Service includes the following:

Responsible for the planning, implementing and evaluating learning experiences for students in the classroom, in the hospital and community settings. Applicants may be required to complete CNM professional development courses related to teaching. Under supervision and in collaboration with other physical therapy faculty, will be engaged in all activities related to the physical therapy program. Utilize a variety of instructional methods appropriate to the learning objectives. Operate multimedia instructional technology, teaching aides, demonstration devices and other appropriate learning technologies. Prepare lesson plans to meet learning objectives. Prepare instructional materials based on analysis of curricular needs and relevancy. Maintain office and other duty hours on campus, meet administrative deadlines, attend required meetings. Other duties as assigned.

This position reports to the Dean of the School of Health, Wellness, and Public Safety. Instructors provide excellent instruction to achieve high academic standards in a supportive, student-centered, community college environment. Instructors employ a variety of teaching methods in order to achieve student success. In addition to teaching duties, which are outlined in detail above, instructors will maintain contact with the dean, maintain a high level of contact with faculty in their discipline, support and attend meetings, and perform other duties as assigned. Successful completion of job duties and responsibilities requires computer literacy.

Instructional Duties:
Responsible for effectively preparing, teaching, grading, and assessing student learning in courses assigned. Create and model a quality learning environment to support a diverse student population including students with disabilities or special learning needs. Maintain student records and provide documentation for incompletes within established College timelines. Utilize a variety of technology-based programs to access and input information related to student records and college/school/department processes.

Structure classes and curriculum to correspond with program and course outcomes. Prepare, distribute and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate. Convene classes as scheduled and respond to student inquiries. Provide assistance to students outside the classroom through posted office hours.

Incorporate, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments. Regularly participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in the field; maintain current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation. Attend in-service sessions, college/school/department meetings, graduation and convocation as required. Provide for the security of facilities, equipment, and instructional materials and maintain safe working conditions. Participate in the development and review of course and program outcomes. Instructors may be assigned other instructional responsibilities as determined by the Dean.
To ensure compliance with federal and college requirements, some mandatory training must be completed for this position.

This is a safety sensitive position; therefore, before classes are assigned instructors must pass an initial pre-employment drug screen.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Master's degree.
  • Licensure if a physical therapist, or licensure, certification, or registration in states where applicable if a physical therapist assistant.
  • A minimum of five years clinical experience that includes experience in the PT/PTA relationship.
  • Currency in contemporary physical therapy practice.
  • Experience in administration.
  • Experience in educational theory and teaching (some examples include: academic, clinical, continuing education, in-service, curricular design, development and implementation and student evaluation).
  • Current knowledge of Microsoft Office and internet research skills.

  • Preferences:
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at community college or post-secondary level.
  • Service on behalf of physical therapy education, the community, and/or the profession.
  • Experience in hiring processes and faculty mentoring.
  • Experience in fiscal management.
  • Experience with the development and maintenance of working relationships with the external community.
  • Experience teaching multiple courses/levels within the discipline.
  • Demonstrated success in meeting the educational needs of a diverse student population.
  • Use of a variety of teaching methods including lecture, collaborative learning, individualized instruction, and various forms of technology based/supported instruction.
  • Applied knowledge of classroom retention and student success techniques.
  • Experience teaching online, hybrid, or web-enhanced courses.
  • Experience with outcomes assessment.
  • Work Schedule:Variable based on the instructional needs of the college, daytime and evening, with locations at different or multiple campuses.

    Instruction of fifteen (15) contact hours per week at assigned campuses; five (5) office hours per week, ten (10) additional on-campus hours per week. Weekdays, Weekends, and Evenings; assignments could be at different campus or clinical site locations; schedule based on course assignments and the needs of the college.
