Duties and Responsibilities:The Dean of the School of Applied Technologies serves as the administrative official responsible for facilitating the planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and communicating functions of the School of Applied Technologies. The dean oversees the transportation, manufacturing, design and construction degrees and certificates. The dean will have a desire to work collaboratively to promote CNM's strategic directions. Duties will be performed consistent with CNM's strategic plan and under the general direction of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

The dean is responsible for providing leadership to instructional activities at all CNM campuses as delineated below:
  • Plans, coordinates and provides oversight of Applied Technologies programs and courses.
  • Manage operations and provide oversight to fiscal, physical and personnel resources.
  • Organize, implement and evaluate academic programs to ensure quality, effectiveness and relevancy.
  • Provide leadership to administrative and instructional staff that fosters academic success, accountability and student retention.
  • Foster collaborative working relationships with both internal and external constituencies to communicate, coordinate and execute strategies that support instructional goals (e.g., articulation agreements).
  • Conducts resource needs analysis, plans, requests and administers school operating and equipment budgets, coordinates and leads the identification of appropriate funding grants and implements grants' application and administration processes.
    7. Provide leadership in academic long-range planning and employ strategic enrollment management and retention strategies.
    8. Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
    9. Communicate effectively in both written and oral formats.

  • Directs the activities of the department, which includes planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, standards, and/or service offerings; ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards.
  • Makes and implements department decisions, which includes solving problems; scheduling, conducting, and attending meetings; ensuring maintenance, security, and safety standards; maintaining current, accurate data and records; facilitating teaching and learning processes; and, meeting administrative deadlines.
  • Provides organization, which includes developing departmental policies and procedures; developing new programs; and, assigning and scheduling personnel, fiscal, and physical resources.
  • Evaluates staff, faculty and department goal fulfillment. Supervises staff and faculty participation in professional development and career advancement plans.
  • Assures compliance and accountability for activities and credits awarded.
  • Responds to faculty, staff, and student problems, criticisms and concerns.
  • Interacts with faculty, staff, administration, professional organizations and public services agencies.
  • Represents department and promotes community participation in CNM programs.
  • Performs other related duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
  • Employees are required to comply with safety regulations, procedures, protocols, OSHA standards, and wear personal protective gear if required.
  • Minimum Requirements:
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in a discipline related to the assignment.
  • Three (3) years progressive administrative experience in post-secondary education demonstrating professional management and leadership skills.
  • Three (3) years of post-secondary teaching experience related to the assignment.
  • Demonstrated experience with strategic and operational planning, budget, and resource management.
  • Demonstrated experience with curriculum development/evaluation, accreditation standards, assessment processes, and transfer/articulation.
  • Experience establishing performance standards, managing performance, and conducting employee performance reviews.
  • Skilled at building collaboration and sustaining productive and respectful working relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Preferences:
  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in a discipline related to the assignment.
  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Community college administrative experience.
  • Experience with innovative instructional pedagogies/strategies that support student access and success (e.g., distance learning, learning communities, first year experience, etc.).
  • Knowledge of current policies, trends and issues in higher education.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, access and student success.
  • Experience working within a collective bargaining work environment.
  • Experience with effective grant writing.
  • Experience in creating inter-institutional partnerships.
  • Work Schedule:Monday - Friday 8:00-5:00. May vary based on the needs of the college.
