Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Applies entries to proper accounts and makes appropriate postings to the general ledger.

  • Develops, implements, modifies, and documents recordkeeping and accounting systems, making appropriate use of technology.

  • Computes taxes owed and prepares tax reporting, ensuring compliance with payment, reporting, or other tax requirements.

  • Reconciles, balances, and maintains accounting records and participates in departmental budget creation and ad-hoc reports. Reports accounting exceptions to management regarding the finances of Central New Mexico Community College (CNM).

  • Coordinates the preparation of regularly scheduled and special billings, costs reports, analyses, studies, inventories, and financial statements for local, state, federal, and private funding sources.

  • Effectively presents information and responds to questions from students, faculty, staff, and visitors

  • Performs mathematical computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. Calculate percent distributions, increase rates, and similar computations.

  • Coordinates and monitors data processing batches including control, cash accounts, and balancing. May provide internal auditing support services for CNM departments.

  • Exercises good judgment and focuses on detail as required by the job

  • Meets schedules and deadlines of the work unit

  • Maintains well-organized materials, files, systems and tools

  • Adapts to changes in work situations and priorities

  • Monitors budget, revenue and expenses for departmental or unit accounts and ensures expenditure control and compliance with funding and reporting requirements, CNM policy, external entity requirements and accounting procedures. Prepares, accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Accounting or related field nine (9) credit hours in Accounting
  • One (1) year of related experience.
  • Preferences:
  • Payroll, contract and grant accounting, general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, budgeting, bank reconciliations, and contract law

  • Balance competing requirements and needs of client organizations

  • Read, analyze, and interpret standards, policies, procedures, and regulations

  • Develop and write reports, policies, and correspondence

  • Handle common inquiries or complaints

  • Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

  • Interpret an extensive variety of data and instructions in written, oral, schedule, mathematical, or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

  • Use (or learn to use) computer software and systems applicable to the position

  • Follow oral and written instructions and procedures

  • Compare data from a variety of sources for accuracy and completeness

  • Verify and maintain accuracy of detailed data and information, detect data errors

  • Communicate in English effectively orally and in writing

  • Reason/analyze; use logic to identify and resolve problems

  • Evaluate, organize, and summarize data and information

  • Establish and maintain constructive and cooperative interpersonal relationships with staff, peers, supervisors, or managers in the work unit and other departments, as well as with staff of outside entities and other individuals, as applicable to the essential duties and responsibilities
  • Work Schedule:Forty (40) hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.
